Just linked up my new RXV650 to a Denon 2200 using a digital coax cable only and when playing Gladiator it fails to auto detect DTS. Anyone else experienced this DTS encoded DVDs? If so, how did you solve it?

None of my dvd players or amps auto detect DTS unless I choose to use it in the audio section of the dvd.

My 650 automatically recognises DTS soundtracks including the one on Gladiator once the correct soundtrack is selected on the DVD - R2 Gladiator defaults to the English Dolby Digitlal soundtrack.

    Hope this helps

    Chrise,
So do I select DTS from the disc menu, or on my DVD players menu?

On Gladiator wait until the main menu has loaded go to Languages/audio option and select there. You will see a short DTS trailer - a grand piano. If you watch the amp you will see it switch to DTS for the trail away for a warning screen and back for the film itself.

Some discs can allow you to select soundtracks directly using an audio options menu on the DVD player but Gladiator does not allow that on my player.

Thanks for that. Do you know whether doing this is unique to Gladiator, or do you need to do this on other DTS encoded films?

Newer films (eg The Two Towers and Master and Commander) allow selection of the soundtrack directly. Gladiator is in DVD terms an old film and one of the first I have with a DTS soundtrack on a R2 disc. I have never seen a DVD to default to DTS rather than Dolby Digital tracks but I suppose there maybe some that do.

You can always select any DTS soundtrackfrom the disc's own menu usually, through the language option.

    Oliver,

The 650-2200 combo is excellent. The only issues I have had so far are:-

2200 occasionally vibrates hugely when playing DVDs, have live post on here to see if this is common place.

650 volume needs to be cranked right up (-20dB +) for movies

If I was sticking with my Kef Eggs I wouldn't bother with the 650 as it is over speced in my opinion for those speakers. Once I get my M&Ks however it should be perfect.

I don't agree that the 650 is overspecced for the KEF's at all.
