Yamaha 630 Upgrade

Hi
I am thinking of upgrading my Yammy but having been out of the AV market for a while I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations of what to upgrade to. My budget is around £300-400. I would like some sort of auto calibration if posible. Would consider second hand as long as the amp has DP IIx.
Is IIx much more of an improvement than ordinary DP II?
I have been very satisfied with my Yamaha, but would appreciate any recommendations by AV members.

Many Thanks

Paul

I upgraded from a Yamaha 620 to my Yamaha 757 and it was definately worth it. It has a Yamahas stripped down auto setup with microphone, I used it for the basic settings and then tweaked it to sound right to me.
It can be had for around £340 delivered.

DP IIx is just a 7.1 version of DP II, and therfore not really different, they are the same thing basically.

The 757 would be my recommendation if you want new, and like the sound of the Yamaha.

Or you could look for and older 1400 or secondhand.

I know it's not the same amp but I sold my 620 which was in mint condition, with remote and manual on these forums for £100 collected.

Hi - Don't want to hijack this thread, but seems silly to start another one on the same topic...! I've also got a Yamaha 630se which I've been really happy with for 5.1, but I'm rather disappointed on performance for playing CDs in stereo. I'm more than content with 5.1 and not fussed by adding more speakers for 6.1, 7.1 or 11.3 or whatever's the latest thing.

I'd personally rather go down the second-hand route and want to spend as little as possible. I've recently seen a Denon 3801 advertised for £100 in my local paper and although that's now been sold, it got me thinking that as I don't need all the latest gizmos I can get say a 5 year old amp that does what I need (DD & DTS) and also get some great performance due to the pedigree/weight of the thing.

Denon 3801 is one example, but are there any others I should be looking out for?
