Having popped into Richer Sounds today they had the 650 on the shelf running through the new Mordaunt Short Genie's (which sounded STUNNING!) and their current price on the Yam is just £270!!

I mentioned to them I was looking for the 750 and the chap said 4 of the staff have them at home, so it seems to be a very popular choice! As they will price match UK websites they can do the 750 for £380 :)

On paper there doesn't seem that much difference between the 2 units, and as a relative newbie to the field of decent home cinema would I really notice a difference?!

So basically, do you think I should save the money and go for the 650 or is the 750 worth the extra £110?

Cheers.... know you guys hate all these newbie questions!!

I would get the 750 as it upconverts to component. Take a look on www.technikdirekt.de where you can get it for about £300, all you need to do is change the plug. Cracking value.

What hi-fi seems to think its worth the difference, but then again they probably would be getting some nice advertising money from yamaha.

As I was told when I asked the same question - 'spend the extra now, as you'll only upgrade in 6 months time anyhow'. I've got the 750 - Genie combo and it is superb.

After the 750 there is a bit of a step to the 1500 (in cost at least) and as such it might be worth going for the best in the range and you could possible reasonably afford, especaly if its gonna get used every/most days.

Sorry to hijack the thread but does anyone know what the J.M. Labs Sib & Cub Mk2 speakers are like when paired with the yahama 750SE amplifier?

    Thanks.

Jon, you may wish to check out the German sites for the 750 too, not only for price, but they do the RX750 which is a receiver, only the AX750 (Amp only) in the UK.
