How does this sub compare to the Monolith?

Has anyone tried the sub, I can't see any reviews on here?

Regards
Rob

Here's a technical assessment.

Moonfly,

The xtz on hometheatreshack doesn't seem to be the 500w ice version, do you think it would match the monolith?

Rob

No it does not match a Monolith +

I have had a xtz 99w12 Ice next to a Monolith +(Lab12)

The Monolith + has more power, but is also a lot bigger.

the XTZ is more like a xxls400, but more expensive.

For the money a great subwoofer, using a powerful 500 watt amp
and Peerless xxls12 woofer.

In terms of subs, power is power really. As long as the sub is getting clean power for all its operational range then different amps wont make a lot of difference. Upping power from 400 to 500 or say 750 to 1000 watts makes little difference if the original amp was already pushing the system. Upping the power like that is usually to ensure the amp doesnt clip, or to make it a more reliable unit rather than any real performance gains. It may also be the case that eq on board is pushing the amp a bit and the additional power helps keeps things clean.

To put things into perspective, to gain just 3db more maximum output from a subwoofer, you need to double its input power, assuming the subwoofer can handle it.
