    Hi

Does anyone know of a PC Program which will let me finalise my DVD-Rs burnt on a Toshiba RDXS32 so that I can create a decent menu in place of the rather mundane and definitely unexciting version produced by the recorder?

I normally end up with around four chapters on a recording and I would like to produce a straight forward menu at the start but with my own backgrounds and thumnail shapes.

Thanks for reading I hope you can help.

    Regards

You can already use your own backgrounds and thumbnails on the Tosh, or is that not what you want?

Or you could use something like TMPGENc DVD Author , but you probably can't get it to pc unfinalized (unless you use dvd ram... although I'm sure someone will correct me). You then copy the data to your pc and burn a new disk...

Could you tell me how to use my own backgrounds, please.

My manual got thrown out about a week after I bought the machine. Apparently, it was my fault as I left in the magazine rack with all the old newspapers :)

    Thanks,

    Matthew

Just download the manual from Toshiba's website in PDF format.

You can download the manuals here.

To create your own thumbnail go to the Content Menu and highlight your recording, then press the Quick Menu button and select 'Create thumbnail'. Scroll through your recording and select the frame that you want to be your thumbnail. I normally pick a frame containing the title. Once selected you should see the picture in use back in the Content Menu. By the way, you can create thumbnails for both titles and chapters ('Create CHP thumbnail' when in the Chapter List).

To add a background to the list of background templates already there go to the Content Menu again, highlight the recording and press the Quick Menu, then select 'Save captured images', scroll through the recording and find the image you want to use. Next time you go to create a menu, the captured image will be in the list of templates.

Unfortunately, I've not found a way of extracting images off a CD to be used as backgrounds and thumbnails, so if you still find the above methods restrictive then you'll probably still end up going down the PC route.

    Hi
Thank you all for your comments.
I have used the thumbnail options - but not the background - so this I will try.
I also think I may be lacking in technical knowledge - I had assumed that I could take an unfinalised disk put it in my PC, create my chapter and menu thumbnails, create or apply a menu template for syle and layout, and also choose a background.
Then finalise the disk on the PC and use it on the Tosh and other DVD players and Recorders? Have I got this all wrong?
If I change al the graphics can I then finalise on the Tosh.?
If I finalise on the PC will the disk not read on the Tosh. and others?

Thanks SDHoward - do you know who publishes TMPGENc DVD Author?

    Cheers group.

    have a look here http://www.pegasys-inc.com/en/index.html

The problem is that its very hard to read an unfinalized disk in anything else (please correct me if I'm wrong).

If you have a pc that can read dvd ram then you can copy it that way. Another way is to finalize it on a DVD-RW then copy that onto a pc. As a starting point you'll then have everything you already set up on the toshiba..

    have fun
