Ok, following advice on here so far (ongoing saga), have installed XP as per instructions, read on here that its a good idea to create separate partition for OS. I followed the setup and chose to create a 8gb partition which XP has installed itself to.
So far so good but now I have a 8gb C drive and thats all. (Hard drive is 40gb)
How can I now access the rest of the space to install programmes etc?
    (I assume a D drive in effect)
Do I have to start from scratch, please excuse ignorance as it's ages since I messed with pcs?

    hi

i would first check hdd properties on desktop...maybe it will indicate what has happened. Secondly how exactly did you partition drive as I thought xp allowed partition for c and remaining was auto allocated to d unless specified differently. Did you format drive in ntfs of fat32 i know problems can occur from this?

    Hi PollyWoggle,

This ones easy. Do the following:

Click Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools

Click Computer Management and on the left hand side, choose "Disk Management"

You should see a black portion of your C drive that remains. Right Click and Choose Format. The rest I can't recall from Memory, but should be intuitive.

Let us know if that sorts you out
