I have an .AVI file sat on my desktop, nearly 1Gb in size that just wont delete. XP keeps telling me its in use by another program or by another user! I have closed every thing thats running and it still gives me the same error.

Anyone have any tips for getting rid of it?

    Cheers

    Taz.

I've had this problem loads of times. It's a real pain. Go into a program and then go to open a file. Go to your desktop and right click the file from within the program and choose delete. That shoud work :)

Right the other way to do it is to boot into DOS mode and then go into your downloads folder and use the del or deltree command. :)

I have found that one of the biggest culprits for do this with AVI files is InCD.

But DOS mode should do it. Not a command promt within windows but booting to DOS. :)

Lets just hope you're not NTFS :D
