Hi all,
I'v been searching a lot (this forums and internet) to fix a problem I have without succes . I hope someone of you can give me a hand.
I've recently bought a media player (Sveon SPM3000) which has ethernet connection feature and runs under Linux Venus. Reading several guides I managed to install Optware and Samba (3.2.15), then I configured smb.conf to allow xp machines to access SPM3000 shares.
This is smb.conf

#======================= Global Settings =================================
#Netbios Name
netbios name = SPM3000
# workgroup = NT-Domain-Name or Workgroup-Name
workgroup = WORKGROUP
interfaces = 127.0.0.0/8, 192.168.1.2/24, eth0
# server string is the equivalent of the NT Description field
server string = Samba Server
#security
hosts allow = 192.168.1 127.
#valid users = user
security = user
encrypt passwords = yes
#log file
log file = /opt/var/log/samba/log.%m
max log size = 50
#performance tweak
socket options = TCP_NODELAY SO_RCVBUF=8192 SO_SNDBUF=8192
#DNS Proxy
dns proxy = no
#============================ Share Definitions ==========================

[SPM3000]
comment = Disco SPM3000
browseable = yes
writable = yes
path = /tmp/hdd/volumes/HDD1/
valid users = sp30354, jose, maria

This is mount command output

/tmp/hdd/volumes/HDD1 # mount
/dev/root on / type yaffs2 (ro,noatime)
none on /dev type devfs (rw)
none on /proc type proc (rw,nodiratime)
devpts on /dev/pts type devpts (rw)
none on /sys type sysfs (rw)
none on /tmp type ramfs (rw)
/dev/mtdblock/2 on /usr/local/etc type yaffs2 (rw,noatime)
/dev/rd/0 on /mnt/rd type vfat (rw,nodiratime,fmask=0022,dmask=0022,codepage=cp4
37,iocharset=iso8859-1)
/dev/scsi/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part1 on /tmp/hdd/volumes/HDD1 type ufsd (rw,n
odiratime)
/dev/scsi/host2/bus0/target0/lun0/part1 on /tmp/usbmounts/sdb1 type ext3 (rw)

I can obviously ping and telnet, but XP can't see samba shares, either \\SPM3000 ip\share method, nor searching computer's workgroup way.

My XP is SP2 and configured Workgroup=workgroup

After I manage this issue I'll try to do it with my Win 7 PC.

Any help will be appreciated very much.

Investigating my problem I realized samba daemons didn't star. I found something about samba 3.2.15 needs to be enabled in S08samba script, so I edited and changed in order to enable. I also found some XP registry tweaks. Any of this changes fixed my problem. I cannot acces samba shares from XP yet.
