Got the chance to buy an XE1 off a mate for £280 or an EP35 from Hughes Direct (out of stock at the mo. I know) for £198. Free HD-DVD aside, which should I go for? I already have a multi-region SD DVD player so am not worried about this aspect of the player. I will be running the player with an Onkyo 875.

    Cheers?

Can the XE1 do everything the EP35 can do and more?(Really need the player to pass HD audio over bitstream etc.)

Yes, the XE1 can pass HD audio via bitstream as long as v2.7 firmware has been loaded (although v2.51 must be loaded first should you require limited multi-region playback).

    Ditto :smashin:

I thought the Ep-35 was very good at upscaling but the XE1 is in a different league. Even SWMBO noticed the improvement.

Toshiba outlets are selling the XE1 for £299 brand new and you can apply for the 5 free discs.
