I'm on the 1.5 firmware but dts.1978 is kindly sending me the 2.0 update. What did everyone make of this update. Did it make a difference good or bad? I read a post that it introuduced more video judder. Any comments?

    Thanks in advance
    Bri

:thumbsup:Thanks sdb and Kingfats for the very quick responses.

Of course it's early days for Kingfats but from your comments it would seem neither of you have noticed any difference. Is that right?

    Cheers
    Bri

I used the disc about six weeks ago and haven't noticed any difference. Having said that, the player did lock up for the first time, when I tried to load a US copy of Batman Begins. It took four attempts before the disc would eventually play.

That was probably me, unless you are running at 48 or 72Hz you most likely wont see it. It appears to be resyncing video (probably to minimise lip sync issues) and it's causing my video processor to loose track of the 3:2 sequence.

My machine loked up in the menu just after I'd loaded the 1.5 firmware. It had locked up before on the Children Of Men combo.

    All the best

Cheers, yes it was you. Post no. 8 in the link below.

So I'm watching in 1080p on the Pioneer PDP-5000EX. Will it affect me bearing in mind I have one very bad disc in the video judder department?

Did it improve the lip sync issue? I saw a post where the guy said it improved it. My 1.5 "improved" it but didn't cure it. :mad:Of course it wasn't there before the 1.2 update.

Thanks again to Kingfats for the second reply.

    Best wishes
    Bri

The only really BIG problem for me with Firmware 2.0 on the XE1 was that ALL Weinstein U.S. HD-DVD's (like "The Matador", "Pulse", "Clerks II", "Wolf Creek" and "Derailed") all break-up and pixellate after approx. 30 mins of playing them. A skip back or forward seems to remedy it, but it happens again after another 30 mins or so. The U.S. Firmware 2.1 seemed to cure this, but we haven't had 2.1 here in the U.K. so the Weisntein disc problem is still relevant on the XE1 at 2.0.

    Thanks MJ

2.0 fixes somethings and breaks others, hopefully we wont have to wait much longer for 2.5 but it looks like they got the 24p wrong anyway.

I did not like the idea of downloading data from the internet into my precious new XE1 so am waiting for the up-date for lossless audio which will have all previous up-dates in with it, when it is released I will phone Tosh and get the disc delivered, I cannot be bothered getting a 30 foot cable to attach my player to my wi-fi box anyway, any news yet when the next up-date is due, NOT 24fps as that is no use to me.

Yep. They played fine before 2.0, Very weird and very annoying (especially if you like any of those Weinstein movies). The only Weinstein title I can get through in one go on the XE1 (on Version 2.0 firmware) is "LUCkY NUMBER SLEVIN".
Hopefully, the next UK upgrade will rectify this (and other problems) without, WITHOUT introducing more "quirks".

I've just received the 2.0 disc. After MJ's comments I'm not letting it any where near my machine. Thanks anyway Lee.

    MJ

No doubt you'll see it anyway but there'a post on the 2.5 thread to advise the 2.2 update cures your problem. Hope it works on your machine too.

    Best wishes
