I'm just trying to figure whether a XBOX will give a 16:9 display with progressive scan (for use with a Panasonic ae100) and provide 5.1 sound. Am I right is assuming I'll have to get a US imported XBox and US Hidef video kit for the progressive to work? Will the DVD playback kit determine the region that the DVD's will work from or is it the XBOX itself?

There's been some quite detailed posts on this subject over the last month or so, you may want to do a search to find the full story, but yes you will need a US Xbox and the HD kit if you want to output a progressive scan image. And yes, it is the the region of the DVD dongle that determines what region disk you can play. I don't think that even the US Xbox will output a progressive scan image for DVDs though, only for games.
