I've got a Plasma screen and a Pal Xbox.

I want to be able to output a progressive signal to my plasma but am not interested in xbox live. I would however like to be able to play NTSC or PAL games.

What is the easiest way for me to do this??

Do I need to get it chipped, do I need to get an NTSC xbox???

    Thanks in advance
    Chez

    chez,

    Yes, you'll need it chipped
No, it doesn't have to be NTSC

Video model selector disc lets you swap between PAL and NTSC EPROM modes.

Chipping an XBox is really easy and it will allow you to play any region games.

This topic comes up quite a lot, so there's plenty of info on it.

Thanks, I have searched and read quite a few posts, but most people seem concerned about being able to play live games...I'm not bothered about that.

So, if I get it chipped, buy a hi-def cable and download a copy of the video mode selector disc, I should be good to go...??

OK, I've looked into this a bit more and am either going to get the Xecutor lite plus or the xenium (solderless).

The Xenium looks easier to fit and looks to have better support going forward (new OS etc..whereas the xecutor is being replaced by v3 soon), but I haven't seen it mention anwhere that the Xenium definitely allows you to output progressive scan on a Pal Xbox..

Can anyone confirm that for me before I order??

Does anyone have any comments on which chip is better and why??

    Thanks
    Chez

Don't buy the gamester hi-def cable.... it's very poor.

I have bought this and it will be going back to the shop asap.

It produces very bad ghosting when NTSC and progressive are used on my XBOX onto my HS20 PJ.

I've ordered the official one and am hoping (fingers crossed) that this will be much better..... otherwise I'm a bit stuck really :)

    regards

    Doc

Thanks Doc...Fortunately, I ordered the official Hi-Def pack from Lik-Sang.

In the end, I went for the Xenium Chip and am now up and running with EvoX.

The Xenium is an absolute doddle to install and works a treat..

I haven't been able to test the progressive output yet (still waiting for the Hi-Def pack from Lik-Sang), but I can play backups, can play NTSC games and can change the video region. The guy at White Dog also assured me that the progressive output would be fine with this chip.

    Hope that helps
    Chez.

PS - make sure you update the on-chip OS before you do anything else!
