I dont pretend to understand how to do this but you can now modify the dashboard so that the signal is outputted in 480p, your dvds will also play in Progressive Scan mode.

    Have a look here

    Enjoy

Sounds very interesting! Chipping is the way to go then?

....and about 45 mins to get the Box open!:D No, I know it's not a Cube (God those Bic pens:D )

Not checked up over the last couple of days but a) can basically a monkey install one and b) what about reliability? - if the XBox is jolted does it come free, how about the longer term reliability of the connections?

Just read page 5 of this thread and it appears a standalone progressive output DVD player will still provide better picture quality than an Xbox. These players are getting much cheaper now so I think chipping an Xbox just to play progressive DVDs is a waste of time. However Xbox games in progressive mode might be worth it.

I agree that a standalone is probably always going to be better than a console DVD but for £150 plus £50 for a chip and a bit of tinkering I can have a progressive multi-region DVD, Games Console which plays games in progressive plus all streaming media, MP3, Divx, plus homebrew apps, plus .. plus ..

    Not bad value really
