I have just got a new TV. Panasonic TX28PS12.

    Its 100hz.

Is it better to have my XBox in Pal 50 or 60? Or wont i notice a difference? I cant seem to see a difference.

I realise Pal60 allows for a higher Frame rate but Halo doesnt get on well with this.

Basically all it means is this (as far as i'm aware)

Most games are developed in either Japan or the USA. Obviously they use NTSC at 60hz. Most games when they are converted to pal aren't optimised at 50hz, so suffer from slow-down, which is obvious in some games.

Other games such as Halo work better at 50hz.

I have my xbox set to 60hz automatically as generally this is what most games are optimised at (AFAIK).

Hope my (very) limited knowledge is of some help! :D

Halo looks marginally better in 50hz. But its the only game that does. I leave mine locked in 60hz. Many games are abismal if not in 60hz.

I'm the same as Games Guru. I just leave it set for 60hz as default. I've looked for a difference and can't see it myself but assume 60 is better than 50 on the odd game.

    Me too.
The only drawback with Halo is it stutters occasionally in 60hz which for me didn't spoil it at all.

It'll be 120Hz for PAL60 or NTSC games, or R1 DVDs; it's "only" 100Hz for regular PAL (PAL50 and R2 DVDs, etc.)

Is it safe to run at this? Is it within specification?

You should switch those processing features off as i believe they ruin the picture quality and there isnt a 120hz option on UK televisions is there ?

Set ur X Box to 60hz and ur television to 50hz and switch the 100 hz processing off you will find it performs better.

I'm sure that 100Hz tvs only double scan (or whatever you call it) when using a 50Hz source, so running a 60Hz source will shown as just that, 60Hz.

I find on myTosh 36zp38, and my older tosh, that, if the xbox is set to pal60 it will change to this if the game supports it.

I can tell because the TV graphics (volume etc) look taller, on pal60 has there are less scan lines.

    Forgot all about this thread.

I have been playing around today and so far I have come to the conclusion that setting the XBox @ 50hz gives a sharper picture.

I dont know if or how you can switch the 100hz processing off on my TV.
