NTL have announced a new services specifically for X-Box users.

It upgrades to include a 2nd IP address for your x-box and a router

    Graham,

The service is not required if you use a router as you then only need one IP address in the first place. This offering is for people who are *not* using a router and are having problems due to the fact that ntl will not allow two MAC addresses on the same IP connection any more.

My advice is to buy a router as you can easily pick one up for the adiditional price of this service over 12 months. I have the standard ntl 600K service and use a Linksys wireless router with XBox Live, it works like a charm.

thanks Carlb, I assumed that would be the case - I was just looking at the various options as I have to go NTL cos I'm too far away from the BT exchange.

Now you've mention a wireless router that works on NTL, I'm happy.

Does it come with a firewall or do I still have to use the software version NTL recommend?

    Graham,

Check your other thread for Linksys details. I use Norton Personal F/w on both PC and Mac, though the router comes with configurable ZoneAlarm f/w capability. Not sure if this would then affect the XBox service though - that is why I leave the router open and protect my PC/Mac at the software level.
