Just got Xbox Live in anticipation of Star Wars Battlefront.
Its connected to a zoom adsl modem on a 512k broadband connection.
Currently I am playing PGR2 and Jedi Academy, but I have noticed a lag of sorts- cars dissapear and Jedis vanish and seem to jump if you are moving near them, especially if there are lots of players.

Is this usual for Xbox Live because it seems worse than my old mac g3 with Quake 3 on a 56k connection!

So do I chuck my xbox and buy a PC for online gaming? :D

Do remember Xbox live works as a per to per system so another xbox(with someone playing on it) is actually the server unlike on a Pc where huge/Super fast pc's run servers.
It depends on the server - Jedi academy is very laggy even on the XMCC server they used to host (they have 10Mb up and down!!). The lag on that game is due to poor programming. Never played PGR2 as i hate driving games so cant help with that.
The main game i play is Rainbow 6 and that hardly suffers from lag - as long as you are connected to a 3 star(connection speed - 3 stars = fastest) server - But even a 3 star server can lag if people connect who are on 1 star connect to it. I'm on 512k ADSL conncetion and can host 8-10 players on R6 with very little lag.

phetttt, i play PGR2 all the time, almost too much, and very very rarely do i ever get or see any lag. The only things i have known to cause lag in gotham are people downloading stuff at the same time as being on live, people with guests signed on and during 8 car pile-ups when playing stupid games like cat & mouse or last man standing. Feel free to send me a FR and join me in a game and there should not be any lag.

PGR2 and Crimson Skies are the only titles worth playing on Live at the moment in my opinion. If you have the right setup there is no lag.

Halo 2 and Fifa 2005 plus a glutch of others should breathe new life into what is a big disappointment at the moment.

Go for the PC option :)
On Battlefront you'll get much larger maps and more players at once , sharper picture etc. I played a demo for Battlefront on my bro's PS2 yesterday and while just split screen with 2 of us playing it was great fun. Still i would rather play this type of game on a pc and save the x-box for Gotham and such like.

Evo isnt going to be online apparently. And Fifa although a bit crap is still great fun with your mates. I tell you what though its only the type of games I have mentioned that are worth playing on live. I have played most of the vaunted titles and they are rubbish especially the FPS (Rainbow 6 etc)

You want to see a proper online FPS try Joint operations and we will talk again :)
