my brother has just bought an x box and he says it "hums".
Went round too see it and sure enough it does make a low hum or whine noise. Is this normal?

you can always stick a fanmate fan controller in there,

makes it sooo much quieter

assuming it's out of warranty and you don't mind opening the box, of course

Whatever you do, don't try to "mask" the hum by putting it in a sealed cabinet. Sounds obvious, but not a lot of people realise that this can seriously knacker a console as not enough air gets around it and it will overheat and die.

If you do it with a ps2 though, it will benefit.

unfortunately, with the X-Box being such a monstrosity it really needs to be hidden from sight.

True, although the newer Version 9 & 10's are a lot quieter than previous models. The worst console for noise is the dreamcast though..makes a right racket!!

A door stop would be my only advice

lol yeah maybe, it would definately do the job but it would end up just filling up the doorway
