    Hi All :hiya:

As many of you would know - from my other thread - I am new to the world of gaming consoles and with your kind advice I went for an XboX console.

I've set it up last night - a 5 minutes job - and it is brilliant. Played MM3 ( great graphics) and spent an hour on Halo.

Now I am trying to buy some games to start me up - and again would like to enlist your assistance.

    I like
    1-Racing,
    2-Shoot'em up,
3- Strategy games (which I understand is rare for Xbox).

Would you please tell me - in your opinion - which is the best game in these three categories.:smashin:

I intend to buy just 3 games in each of the above.

    Any recommendations are gratefully received.

    Regards

    Emad

Racing: Project Gotham Racing 2 (this one's a no-brainer in my opinion). MotoGP2 is also good, but PGR2 is a lot better, IMO.

Shooting: This is trickier, cos Halo is the obvious choice, and you already got it. Rainbow Six 3 (first person shooter) is excellent if you like slow-paced tense and realistic military style action. Max Payne 2 (a 3rd person film-noir style cop shooter) is great but very short, so maybe not good value for money. Crimson Skies is good - it's an arcady flight shoot-em up, great graphics and good fun if you want a change from first-person shooter format.

Strategy: Durrrrr. Can't really help here. I don't play strategy games, and they're pretty thin in on the ground for XBox.

Timesplitters 2 is also a good FPS for XBox. Controls aren't as tight as Halo, but it's a lot of fun.

Let me know if you find a good strategy game. Munch's Oddysee is a platformer really, but almost fits into the strategy genre.

Congratulations on the xbox purchase, you wont look back

    For me;

Racing - Colin McRae 4 powerslides are awesome no night time stages though , MotoGP 2 is just great and Burnout 2. I do also have PGR 2 which is very highly rated but have not played it, i didnt like PGR though but PGR2 is supposed to be much better.
Also need for speed underground may be worth checking out i also have that and its pretty good.

Shoot em up - Xiii, Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Unreal Tournement or Max Payne 2, maybe MOH Rising Sun

Strategy - Star Wars KOTOR, Deus Ex i havent got this but it looks amazing from the reviews, dont know of any others but someone else may do.
I would also try Silent Hill 2 and GTA 3/Vice City as well.

    He said strategy.

Incidentally, Deus Ex 2 is pretty awful.

the graphics on mm3 are quite frankly crap lol. If you think they are good, then you'd better be sitting down when you see PGR2 running;)

Do you good people know of a cheap place to buy Xbox games?
Well, by cheap- I mean cheaper than high street prices.

    Thanks

    James.miller

Thanks for the advice, could you please elaborate?

Someone advised me to send it to premoded.com but what are the benefits - other than being able to play NTSC games?

    Thank you & regards

    Emad

    where do i start lol.

    ok let's see:

    • can copy games straight to the hard drive and run them so you dont need the game disk to play
    • can run emulators and emulate many older consoles: snes, megadrive, n64, amiga ect
    • can watch Divx, Xvid and almost all other major video codecs
    • can listen to almost all major audio formats including MP3, OGG and others.
    • can stream monies, music and photos over a lan connection
    • you can upgrade the hard drive to just about any size you like

There are many other things you can do aswell, but i can't remember them al off the top of my head lol

Think of a kiss DivX player without the bugs.
Think of the megadrive, snes, mastersystem,n64 and just about any other console you can remember.
Think about a progressive scan dvd player.

Then, mix em all up and the result is the modded xbox:)

you can *emulate* older consoles. For example, i can play the thousands of megadrive and snes roms directly on my xbox: sonic the hedgehog, donkeykong country 3, Mario allstars. Even some n64 games like SuperMario64, Starfox/Lylat Wars or Zelda:OOT.

If you like games on older consoles, you'll love the emulators.
