Xbox extender "red button" services

Anyone know how to access the BBC red button services using an Xbox media remote (original version)? My xbox extender works perfectly and the remote is great but none of the buttons are mapped to open the red button menu. Any ideas?

In media center you use the right or left arrows then scroll to the far right (or back one left) to get to an "interactive" option. then OK does the same thing as red or scroll down for the other options - back to get out of it/go back in the menu. I haven't tried this on my 360s but it's pretty painful on the PC, if you have a real freeview tuner you may find it less trouble if you're watching live anyway?
