I am thinking of getting an Xbox, to connect to my AV amp do I use a standard optical lead or is a special Xbox lead required?

You need an advanced scart lead, to give it it's name.

Its an official xbox product and also offers you rgb as well

Should you like options, there are other 'non-official' cables available.

Joytech and Game's own-branded SCART/optical are usually easy to find. Just make sure that you pick up one with optical out!

On a final note, you may wish to buy an optical cable separately. The one included with my SCART has set on a path to self-destruction. Nah, not booze and horses  . Each end of the cable has 'decided' to detach from its home!

    :)

I'd get the MS one - the quality is good with it.

Don't forget you'll need an additional optical cable with the MS Advanced Scart.

Game do there own, which is £5 less and included optical cable - not sure if quality of image/sound suffers with it being pretty much cheaper than the MS one.

I got the Game one and had constant dropouts. Took it back, got refund, and bought a Joytech one from an independent shop for the same money.

    Cheers,
    Liam

I've also got the joytech lead. No problems at all here.

Just for balance :D , I bought my brother the Game cable last year (the only one available at the time) and it's been problem-free.

They may not be 'perfect' , but they'll do the job and are pretty good value :smashin:

Maybe I had a duff one.

    Cheers,
    Liam

P.S. by "dropouts", I mean that the audio would suddenly pulsate at full volume, which is bl**dy loud on my system!

I bought the Game own brand but took it back within the return period. Even though it comes with an optical cable and only costs £15, you will suffer what I consider to be a fairly serious drop in picture quality. That said, I can't compare it with the MS one as yet, as I haven't yet bought that.

Decided to get the MS advanced scart + seperate optical lead (unable to find anywhere with Joytech lead in stock)..........probably the most expensive option (£32) but what the heck!
