    Hi,

I'm an absolute newbie when it comes to all this HD and resolution stuff, so have a simple question. I've read that some DVD players you can 'upscale' DVD's with, to make them look better. Can you do this on the Xbox 360? And I know it has a progressive scan DVD player, would all DVD's play in this mode, and how does the picture compared to an 'upscaled' one?

Basically I don't know whether I should use the 360 for DVD playing, or to buy another cheap one which upscales. And what exactly does upscaling do, won't it distort the picture?

I've pretty much decided not to get another DVD player, till the proper bo HD DVD players come out and prices come down. :)

The xbox 360 won't upscale. It will output your DVDs at standard resolution.

Upscaling can give an improvement to the picture. I've got a Panasonic s97 and get very nice results when outputting at 720p.

Is that confirmed? Do you have a source for that info? I only ask as we're having exactly the same conversation in the FAQ discussion thread, and as far as I was aware, it hasn't been confirmed if there would be DVD upscaling or not. If you have a link though, it's much appreciated, we're trying to keep the FAQ up to date...
