    Hi Guys

I have just pulled the trigger on the Toshiba 27WL56P. However I want to connect my Xbox and Xbox 360 (in the future) to it via component how and what do I need to do this. Also will the VGA to VGA Xbox 360 cable give me a Hi Def picture on the Toshiba. I am very confused any information much appreciated.

    Regards Jason

Well the vga cable is ideally only really for connecting it to a PC monitor, as it outputs 1024x768 for 4:3 PC monitors

the component cables that come with the machine in all regions allow 720i, 720p and 1080i

and 720p is 1280x720, according to the specs of the toshiba it goes upto 1280x768, so this would probably be your best option, granted will most likely scaled down 1080i inputs too but will probably look better with the progressive scan, correct me if im wrong guys?

so simply put you shouldnt need to purchase anything to play your xbox360 in HD as long as you have component inputs on your tv, if it does not, then it will have to be the VGA route, although that would be a 1024x768 image, either stretched or windowed.

Sadly the 360 isnt comming with any 'digital' outputs (HDMI..)

    Hi Guys

Would a VGA to Component Breakout Cable (5 Wire Female) do the trick for Hi-Def Pictures on the Toshiba via the Xbox & the Xbox 360. Also where would you buy such a cable? Also where do you buy VGA Component Adapters.

    Regards Jason

Hi Jay, I think the Hidef cable in the 'premium' Xbox360 pack has the standard 3 leads for HD component, 2 video cables for SD connections (using a Scart adapter) and also uses an optical output for 5.1 surround sound?

No that will not work with HIGH DEF you will lose picture quality using component on that switch box.
If you buy an HIGH DEF compatible amp like the yamaha rxv450 you will be able to use the supplied component cable for HIGH DEF.
(With the yuv to vga cable)

no it says it accepts signals of that, however you will find via the vga cable it will scale the image to the 1024x768 (4:3) resolution - Check out the xbox.com press release by J Allard about this.
