Talkings to some friends on Live last night who live in the states. A couple of them were saying that some shops are taking preorders for the 360 already.

They have been told there will be two shipments before Christmas one in November one in December. Shops over there have been given and idea on how many units they will be receiving.

    It dosnt look promising :(

One guy was saying his local EB is only getting a handful of consoles in November. Can anyone confirm if these stories are true ? Got to say the vibes are bad already for a prechristmas launch over here.

Non of the big multiples seem to be saying much. Dixons for example say it will be launched "December 2005" Mmmmm thats not in time to make any significant sales before Christmas. No release date at all on Amazon who are normally quite good.

I have an effing video of J Allard promising that the 360 will be in Europe before Christmas. If that doesn't happen, I'm going round his house and doing a Reservoir Dogs on him!

Yes but when and in what numbers ? We might see it but if they only send Europe a a fee hundred thousand consoles it seems a bit pointless and it will be impossible to get one.

Looks like my idea of going to the states to get one is out the window as well :(

Stop paniking Harris, you will be able to get one. There are just a couple of things that you'll need to do:
a: Place a pre order in your local game and gamestation on the first day that they start taking pre orders, this way your be at the top of the list
b: if you live near a town that has lots of places that sell Games Etc and that town has a Dixons then Dixons will be the place to get one as no-one else will go there to get one
c: ask me nicely and i'll reserve one for you :D just means you'll have to come down to sunny Dover to collect it!

The whole shortage thing is all part of the marketing process that whips gamers up into a frenzy for fear they may not get one at launch. It probably helps make the system more appealing as if it were easily available human nature means people may put off buying one till a later date. If you think/know it won't be available easily you will get one at launch.

The whole shortage thing can also cause frustration and annoyance....look at the PS2 launch fiasco...granted it didn't harm their sales too much in the long term but it does have the capability to take the shine off the launch if not done properly and fairly

Still thinking about getting both consoles in this generation...but don't think i'll get a 360 at launch unless some seriously impressive software is out with it

A launch with supposed "shortages" is easily the best way to get into the mainsteam press for free. "Gamers can't get enough of PS2" and "PS2 is the must-have gift for christmas" headlines when PS2 was released got so much free publicity, and the effect can't be understated. If your product looks desirable and popular, it snowballs into sales.
