Xbox 360 looks terrible connected via HDMI to 24" Monitor

I've looked on here and can't see anything related to my question...if there is please excuse me.

I've connected my Xbox 360 via HDMI to my Samsung Syncmaster BX2431.

All of my games look terrible! Specifically Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, where the textures are so bad, signs on buildings are literally just blurred images. It's almost as if it 'switched' to a lower graphics quality. I had been playing on a 42" Sharp Aquos via HDMI with no problems at all, but I've since switched to my computer monitor.

I've tried my Xbox at all different resolutions but can't get a good image from anything. If anyone has any insight, or needs more info to help me out, it would be greatly appreciated! Hopefully it's just a settings issue?

:lease:

Thanks.

Are you looking at the monitor from an offset angle ? It's a TN panel and will soon wash out colours and look blurry if not viewed in the sweet spot. If your enable to physically change the angle of the display Samsung have a setting called Magic Angle have a play with those and see if that helps.

It's not the angle or anything like that. It's like the resolution isn't accurate. It's set to 1080p (I've tried others as well with no better results) and everything looks pixelated as if I'm running it at a low resolution. Textures are jagged and everything in the distance is pixelated, making it impossible to see enemies from afar. It's HDMI so it shouldn't look bad.

Should I be connecting via DVI? VGA? I'm really kind of lost here...it's a hi-def monitor that isn't displaying hi-def. :(

I've got my PC hooked up to another input on the dame monitor, and it looks great at 1920x1080. It's just the Xbox360 that doesn't look right.

You could try VGA yeah why not, Ive got a opposite thing going on, Ive got a Syncmaster P2450 and looks great with HDMI with ps3 or 360(dont use them with it but have tried) but utter rubbish with HDMI with PC and so use DVI with that and its fantastic.
Just have to experiment, was suprised how good 360 looked with it mind you with HDMI.

Sorry, I was a little confused by your comment. Yours works great hooked up Xbox > HDMI to VGA > PC monitor?

What happens when you select the auto button ?

Have you also checked the auto source option in the settings ?

Maybe you have the PC option also switched on ?

Maybe your outputting at 50hz rather than 60hz from the Xbox ?

If that all fails try this:

To reset the display settings of the Xbox 360 console to the default settings, follow these steps:

• Remove any discs from the disc tray.
• Turn the console off.
• Turn the console on. Note If you are using an Xbox 360 Wireless Controller, turn the console on by using the Xbox Guide button on the controller. Make sure that you use the player 1 controller when you do this. The player 1 controller will have the upper-left quadrant light illuminated.

• As the console starts, press and hold the Y button, and then pull the right trigger at the same time.

The Xbox Dashboard resets the display settings to the default settings, and then automatically restarts the console.

I have my Xbox to a PC Monitor via HDMI and its fine.

Tried all of the above, no difference. The only one I haven't tried is making sure the Hz is correct. How do I make sure the Xbox is outputting 60hz?

I'm beginning to think this is a lost cause...ill be hooking a PS3 up later tonight, and I'll let you know how it looks. Thanks for all the suggestions!

Connected my PS3 tonight, and it's just as bad. The menus look great and crisp, but the minute I start COD, it looks as though the game is playing at a low resolution with jaggies everywhere and really bad pixelation. It's got to be a monitor problem, but I've tried all the settings on it with no luck :(

Thanks, but i think that's more for color/contrast issues...mine is a resolution issue.

Black ops 2 on xbox runs at 880x720 so either the xbox or the tv has to do the scaling to make if fit the screens native resolution. I have a Samsung 24S550 and I do prefer the look using the VGA cable compared to HDMI.

Also Samsung TN panels have an anti glare coating which can make things look a little blurred.

I read somewhere on a review about samsung monitors and connecting a xbox to them. It stated that you might have to rename the input on the monitor from hdmi to pc. Also make sure the cable is connected to the hdmi/dvi input. Long shot, but worth a go.

Last time I done that I had to use the component cable and the scart adapter. Boot the system up and then change it. Change the cable to HDMI and the game would work.

Well looking at your manual , have you selected AV instead of PC ? As in 3-9 using the second button from left next to menu ?

Users can set the <Customized Key> to one of the following functions. If the user presses the Customized Key [ ] after setting it, the configured function will be performed
&bull; PC signals : <MagicBright> - <MagicAngle> - <MagicEco> - <Image Size>
&bull; AV signals : <Picture Mode> - <MagicAngle> - <MagicEco> - <Image Size>
You can set the function of the Customized Key by selecting <SETUP&RESET> -> <Customized Key> in the OSD.

So that leads us to Picture Mode settings as its AV & not a PC
The Monitor has four automatic picture settings (<Dynamic>, <Standard>, <Movie> and <Custom>) that are preset at the factory. You can activate either Dynamic, Standard, Movie or Custom. You can select Custom which automatically recalls your personalized picture settings.
&bull; &bull; &bull; &bull;
<Dynamic>
Select this mode to view a sharper image than in Standard mode.
<Standard>
Select this mode when the surroundings are bright. This also provides a sharp image.
<Movie>
Select this mode when the surroundings are dark. This will save power and reduce eye fatigue. <Custom>
Select this mode when you want to adjust the image according to your preferences
&bull; &bull;
This can only be set when the external input is connected through HDMI/DVI and <PC/AV Mode> is set to <AV>.
This menu is unavailable when <MagicAngle> or <MagicEco> is set.

You could also try HDMI Black Level & a HDMI 1.3 cable or greater.

I think the xbox supports 1.3

Then you could try HDMI settings in xbox like 1080 i instead of p and RGB levels

Optimum & Max resolutions are with HDMI at 1920 x [email protected] hz

You will need to read my posts from the bottom up

It looks like Samsung have made it easy to switch from PC to AV products with its 2 HDMI inputs. When your on a laptop you would choose PC & xbox, blu ray etc its AV as it will likely be either 720 or 1080
