    Follow me!

Use the link above, then there's a 12-min video of how the new Live works if you click on the "Feature: Xbox 360 close-up" link in "Related media" on the top-right. Worth a watch if you want to see how well thought out the new Live service will be

I noticed actually that it will be possible to change your gamertag at any point to whatever you want, whenever you want (as long as its not already taken though!), though your feedback and friends lists etc stays with you...

I particularly liked the idea of reputation, achievements and also the abilty to see what games people had been playing and what they had managed to complete

All in all very impressive and the picture they showed on the Sharp LCD was nice and crisp as well obviously running in 720p :smashin:

Changing tags = Bad as you will always be thinking who the hell is that?

Gamer rating = Bad because if you don't always play friends and you win? all the jerks will leave you bad feedback just because it's funny. meaning your rating will be crap and you'll be matched with knobs.

    The rest sounds good.

Yeah, I know where you're coming from Jay, but if you think about it, people on your friends list won't be changing tags all the time, as they're not stupid. Also, the feedback system will even itself out - it's a minority of Live players who are idiots, so their bad feedback for you will be outweighed by the majority of people who leave good feedback for you. I think it will work, but I've always been an optimist! ;)

Anyone know if you'll be able to have multiple users on one machine? Or will i have to think about getting two XBox 360's, and how do i explain to the missus.
I've aleady had enough trouble justifying why we've got four xbox's.

I assume you mean will you be able to have more than one Live account on one 360? If so, then sure, even the Xbox 1 could store 8 simultaneous accounts, though only certain games could handle more than 1 being logged in at any one time.

The 360 has support for multiple simultaneous Live accounts on a single console (up to 4), and you sign in and are assigned one of the four 'quadrants' on the ring of light on both the console and relevant controller. So when one of those accounts gets a message/request/whatever, the relevant quadrant is lit up so you know who its for.

Four xboxes!?! I thought I was bad with 2

As for this changing gamer tags thing, I'm really not sold. One of the great things about xbox live over PS2 online was that you had one name that was consistent from game to game.

I am wondering If it will work like Dead Or Alive Ultimate did, where you could set a nick name in game. You then had the option of displaying nick names or gamertags. If it's like this, where you have a unique name asosciated with your gamercard but a customisable nick name, then it will be fine. Friends list would then show nickname with overriding tag in brackets.

I certainly won't be changing mine. Bounty Bob forever!

I know what you mean about the advantage of having consistent gamertags, so you can instantly recognise the name, and IMHO this will still remain. I know I'm keeping my Munkey Boy tag!

People on your friends list won't change their tags really, cos they'll all be sensible people (!!sweeping generalisation alert!!). Even if someone was to change their tag though, they still stay on your friends list, and you'll probably get a message from them saying why they'd changed their name and what from. The important thing is that the gamertag is consistent across all games and you can keep your friends list going and that you can give a specific account feedback, and all that will still happen. I personally wouldn't like game specific nicknames, too confusing! Don't worry!

This new LIVE service on the 360 looks amazing. It looks comprehensively the best thing since sliced bread. I really doubt that sony will have anything to rival this. The LIVE service is going to be where microsoft have the edge over sony.
All that we ned now is some awesome looking games and all those people drooling over the MGS demo can drool over some 360 games.
