Can anyone help?

I'm connecting my xbox360 to my HDTV using the component video cable. The 360 setup menu allows you to set its display type to 480p, 720p or 1080i. Trouble is, I don't have a clue which one of these I should set the xbox to. They all look the same.

I have an LG RZ42PY10X 42" plasma with 1024x768 resolution. So which of the 3 display settings should I set my 360 to. Can anyone help?

Thanks

How do you know that 720p is nearest resolution?
The 720 in 720p means the picture is made up of 720 lines & your plasma has 768 lines according to your post.

Your TV will upscale the picture slightly to make it fit vertically. It also down-scales the horizontal resolution from 1280 to 1024.

I keep reading that the Xbox 360 normally renders games at 720p (1280x720) resolution internally & to output other resolutions it has to scale the picture. You should get a better picture if you can avoid scaling in both the Xbox & TV. 1080i is even more complicated because it involves interlacing & then your TV de-interlacing. Having said that I've seen posts where people say they prefer the picture they get with it set to 1080i. I guess it depends on your TV.
