I realise it's not technically a HTPC, but it is a media center (and superior to the Windows ones IMO!)...

I have an old Xbox running XBMC. I have the High definition Xbox video adapter cable thing for the Xbox - the one that gives you component video and optical audio. There's also a chunky non-standard socket on the end of it, into which I can plug a SCART adapter.

Does anyone know if its possible to get HDMI on the original XBox using this cable? I'm already using the component inputs on my tv, so if I could use HDMI with this it would be idea.

    Thanks.

    I doubt it.
You could try a component to VGA adaptor such as the VDIGI Z3 to use that input if your TV has one. Component and VGA are still analogue where as DVI and HDMI are digital.
Anything other than component out of the XBOX will also not be HD.

I think the only way of using HDMI on the original Xbox would be to connect the component lead to a HDMI AV receiver and then output from that using HDMI.

This is the how I connected mine and it gives very good image quality.

Thanks. I'll go for the component to DVI option.
