You want WASAPI enabled anyway, since this stops windows playing around with the audio before its sent to the HDMI port.

Ah cheers stevos been trying to research what it did.

Could you please let me know, how to enable it on WIN7.
my HTPC plays all types of sounds except DTS-HD over HDMI and my sound settings on XBMC shows, DTS and DTS-HD Enabled.
Only In Analog mode the DTS audio works

I just went to the bottom of the list right at the bottom there should be pass through or something change that to wasapi

Yeah its in the sound output within XBMC.

When you select passthrough, at the bottom you have the choice between direct sound and WASAPI.

Yeah I see that stevos what does wasapi do?

have tried both options in the audio settings, direct sound to WASAPI and passthough to WASAPI and mixmatch that. But nothing worked, does it needs to shutdown and restart before the changes take effect? also checked my nvidia graphics sound card (GT520) and its DTSHD enabled one. Please suggest me any more alternatives.

Should just work.

I know some older cards don't support audio over HDMI, have you checked the GT520 does?

Yeah I see that stevos what does wasapi do?

WASAPI is just a clean audio passthrough.

If you pass the audio via directsound it gets recorded to 24bit (i think, can't remember exactly), which you may or may not be able to hear the difference.
