I've been having a look for a new pc setup and I've found a decent deal on the i5 version of the alienware x51. My only concern is in not sure if it would last???

Spending that much on a system I want be able to get at least 2 years off the back of it but I don't know if it would... Oppinions anyone?

(I know I could put together a system for the same price with a little more power but the form factor of the alienware is better for me)

It would last yes, but overall could do much better for that money on a self build, Or prob do much better from an overclockers build.

    Example below.

cracking buy imo if dont want to build one, I bought from there and couldnt fault them, packaging had what seemed like 30m of bubble wrap in monster box. Have since built mate a rig and is easy really.

    "Vortex i7" Intel Core i7 3770 3.40GHz DDR3 Quad Core Gaming PC [FS-309-OE]

Sebastalona recently built a small form factor PC that makes the X51 look over-priced and under-powered. Which it is.

If money is no object go for it but you can do better with a self build.

Ill have to keep looking, I wanted the x51 purely because of the size and the reviews. I have usually gone self build but couldt find what I wanted for cheaper.

The deal for the alienware is 714 for the i5

This is true I guess lol. I've googling around all day and its actually not that bad a deal. I spec'd up a machine myself with an it type setup and could save £100 if I use one of the HDS I already have.. As you've said, the upshot of doing it myself is as slightly better spec
