I was browsing through DVD Digital World's site when I found this:-

    https://www.dvdworldusa.com/shopitem.asp?catalogid=17056

It's their advance copy version of X-Men 2 that they are stocking which they claim is 8 minutes longer than the Region 2 version.

    Is this correct?
Will the "retail" version of the R1 have these extra 8 mins?
What has been cut from the R2 version?

I had a quick search on the forums but didn't find anything mentioning R2 cuts so can anyone shed some light on this... surely it couldn't be the Pal speed-up difference?

    Regards,
    Iain.

I thought PAL speedup was 4%

If so, you'd only gain approx 2mins 20secs per hour.

Just had a look at my Jap region 2 version and according to the packaging the run time is 134 minutes?

That would be right. Although Japan is in R2, its TV standard is NTSC as on USA discs - not PAL as in the rest of R2 land. So the runtime would be as per the original film, not sped up. As for the 1 minute difference - it's probably down to rounding and/or different distributors' logos at the start.

Godzilla is quoted at 140min at IMDB yet has no cuts on region 2 and that comes in at 133min according to play.
4% speed up would make it about 134.5min so some anomalies do arise.

I posted about this on the DVD Forums, as I received an email from Digital World promoting their new/forthcoming releases. In the mail it clearly emphasises in red letters that the R1 is...

    (UNCUT)
    8 MINUTES LONGER
    THAN U.K. VERSION

After reading the replies to my thread - most people haven't heard of any cuts to X2 - I suspect that it's bad/misleading advertising. Whether they've done it purposely to try to get more orders for their R1 edition or they are just ignorant when it comes to the differences between PAL/NTSC (very doubtful)...well, you decide!

I don't think it is cut. They also have the aspect ratio wrong as well, as they say '1.85:1' when it should be '2.35:1'.
