Great review phil, ive also just finished watching my copy(x-men 1and 2 box)and have to say this is on a par with the exellent 1.5 release, mirroring bothpicture and sound
To me the extras are just bitrate wasters so i didnt worry about the upcoming release here and america which as you say has another disc for these!!!
The film is so much better than the original and i cant wait for the 3rd in the series
At the moment japenese dvds have taken over for quality releases and lets hope it continues!!!
Have you managed to see the exellent dts version of cutthroat island, phil?
This has to be one of the 'loudest' soundtracks i have ever heard
The picture is not as sharp as recent films but the sound makes this the best
dvd ive bought in a long time most of which have been japanese
How is the trailer for the "Alien Quadrilogy" boxset? Could you post it somewhere on the net? Or is it just a boring teaser?
The trailer gives no details about what to expect, just the usual coming soon tripe.
I would love to see a review on the forums of Cutthroat Island its an underrated film and the Japanese disc is amazing.
Foxy, yes it will get reviewed very soon, i promise.
Matt even stated he liked the movie, so guess who will be reviewing it. I will order it with Octobers stuff.
Does the "Alien Quadrilogy" trailer feature any release-date info?
Thanks for a great review Phil. My copy landed in the post this morning, so no prizes fior guessing whati I'm watching tonight!
Yet another good review, Phil
Fox seem to be putting a lot of effort into producing
top quality discs. With Daredevil a few weeks back and
now X-Men 2 joining the ever growing list of excellent surround
soundtracks, the future looks very exciting.
anyone know how to get rid of the subtitles or can i change the menu to english . i have the blade dts japan import and the menu are in english too.
cheers guys top film and picture and sound quality
Bring up the menu on our x-men 2 disc which will initially give you four options. Click on the option to the left, which is for audio & subitiles. You will see a series of options to the left. One of which has a dts logo. I recommend you select the dts logo which is an English track. Now move to the right. Select the bottom option, which will disable the jap subtitles.
Your now ready to watch the feature in glorious DTS, with no subtitles. You can also disbale the subtitles by using the subtitle button on your dvd player if you wish.
cheers for that
are Japanese discs a safe bet quality wise - compared to R2 which are my usual purchases?
I'm thinking of picking up Japanese versions of Indy, Lion King and Matrix reloaded (possibly finding Nemo too). My wife is Japanese, and it'd be good for her to have subs/dub available.
Any good stores to recommend? HMV seem OK, but prices are generally quite high in Japan.
I have a good few Japanese DVDs mate and they are all top notch. The packaging on just about every Jap Reg 2 is lush and of course all (I believe) Hollywood movies are in English.
My current fav on Jap is probably Ronin although I am very very pleased with the Superbit A Few Good Men (nice white packaging). ONly issue with HMV (I usually use them ) are the fedex charges are very high, usually around £15-£19 per movie on singles and £20-£24 on multiples
cheers for that. I might be going over in November, so I can get some shipped to my in-laws house if HMV are cheaper than in shops.
I also use amazon.co.jp with the slowest shipping.. they also discount quite a few of the disks..
