According to dvdcompare.org.uk the R4 version is the same as the R1, so I'd imagine the R2 will also be the same.

I have the original (region one) version... What is on this new version which is not on the original? is it worth upgrading to 1.5?

Hi Lex there was some talk of the disc in this thread http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=65431 I think there is some stuff on the first disc that is not on the second and vice versa. I do not think it is the disc Bryan Singer was hoping for.

Its not the disc i was hoping for, i was hoping the scenes removed would be available as part of the film in a seamless branching technique along with the original cinema version on the same disc, i'm a huge dts sound fan but i already own the film and will not buy this disc again its a disappointment :(

I did upgrade and don't regret the £10 or so from DVDSoon. The extras disc with the "behind the scenes" was fascinating.

I have just been in town and seen the box and I cannot see THX on it any where. Can any one shed any light on this whether or not either version (R1 or R2) is or is not THX certified?

Still, I must admit it is strange that they release it this late and close to X-men 2.

i have both versions (i bought R1 and got a review copy of R2) and the R2 isn't THX, not just a box issue, you don't get the little THX section on starting the film.
if you don't have it then its a great (though not as good as it could have been) release but it isn't worth upgrading just for the extras.
now if it had been a new cut of the film.........

If the R4 is OK for you I see that www.devoted.com.au have this disc in their sale for $23.5 Austrailian (£9) and they have a free shipping deal on at the moment (check the site for how to get free shipping - I got an email about it)
It may even be cheaper than this if GST has to come off (?)

I found that the first release of X-Men was THX, but the disc did not have the THX optimiser, whatever that is.

I can't decide if I should buy this or not. What puts me off is the inability to access the deleted scenes directly and the fact that the "enhanced viewing mode" shows the original scene and the deleted/extended one which often means you will watch the same footage twice. From reviews it also seems that the extra material is non-anamorphic and has a poor sound mix compared to the rest of the film.

Does anyone think they will fix these problems and release a new version? I am a little annoyed that this is the 2nd release of this film on DVD and they still haven't got it right.
