One particular online retailer is advertising Series 1 - 6 (R2) of the X Files for £39.99 each with a release date of 30 September. I've trawled through a few other sites and can't find another reference to a discounted re-release. Anyone else heard or read anything about this?

    Hi,

More than likely, it really means that Season 6 will be out on 30th September, but that this company/shop/online retailer will be selling their copies of Seasons 1 through 6, for £39-99 each, as some kind of special offer.

At least that's what I think.

Now had an e-mail from the retailer telling me it's a re-release of Region 2/4 versions at a discounted price. I've replied asking if it differs from the original in either content or packaging.

I'd also be interested to hear their reply as I saw this on their site yesterday and wondered the same thing.

PoochJD - It's Season 7 that's due for release in September (22nd), Season 6 has been out for a while now. In fact I've been waiting to find Season 6 at a good price for ages and this may just be the one to go for if the specs/packaging are the same.

I suspect they may be the R4 releases, but that should be fine as I'm pretty sure they're identical to the R2 except they don't have the BBFC logo on the side. They are also dual coded for R2/4.

They do sound like the Region 4 releases to me as well, especially since I have seen some Australian retailers also re-advertising them to pre-order at discounted prices who give approximately the same dates for shipment.

From what I have read, the re-releases come in Amarays rather than the foldout digipaks though.

I'm sticking to Region 1 anyway...

I don't know why it's being kept a secret actually  I'm pretty sure he's referring to the ones recently put up at www.cd-wow.com :)

    thanks Squirrel

I do hope it is in the same packaging as my 1-5 - real nice boxsets. If this re-release IS generally available, i doubt that anyone would pay extra for the older stock, so you'd think they would have to sell the old ones off cheaper anyway.

    we'll see

Yep, it's cd-wow. Just seemed strange that this was the only retailer advertising these sets. I'll post when I hear anything.

This release is apparently from the Fox studio in Australia for a 'limited period'. Seasons 1 & 2 are in amaray packaging, Seasons 3 - 6 are digipaks. Content unchanged from original release.

I only have Season 1 at the moment, hence the interest in this. Can anyone tell me what packaging the original Season 2 - 6 releases are in?

...All the season boxsets I have are in the fold out packs or 'hubs' (not entirely sure what you call them  )

    1-4 : 7 discs
    5-7 : 6 discs

These are region 1. Originally bought from play for £75.99 a pop

Then found them at cd-wow and got season 7 for £53.99.

No idea if they are different to these re-released R2 sets.

Thank goodness I spotted this thread before opening my recently ordered X-Files Season 4 from Play (£68.99)

I was able to return it for a full refund.......and then proceeded to preorder Season 4,5 +6 from CD-Wow :smashin:

Glad it proved useful. Funny thing is cd101 are still trying to flog seasons 1 and 2 for over a hundred quid.

Are 'digipaks' the fold-out jobs? Like them better than Amaray for this set.

I notice the release date has gone back to the end of October. Worth waiting at these prices I suppose but hope there's no more delays.

Just a quick word to say I've recieved the first of my CDWow boxsets (Season 5 containing 6 discs), they are in 3 x Double Amaray cases in a cardboard sleeve.

It's much easier to get at the discs compared to the digipaks and they also print an episode list along the spine, very handy indeed :smashin:

The age rating for the set is not the usual 15 or 18 in a red circle but rather "MA +15" (with the MA contained in a hexagon). Anyone know what this means? R4?

yeah, just got mine yesterday, they are the region 4(and 2) Australian versions, and are exactly the same as the region 2, just the packing is different (and harder wearing).

got my season 6 the other day, and glad to say the packaging is the same as the full price R2's you see in the shops, and match all my others.

    well pleased

For those who want to keep to the same packaging (digi-pak) for their R2 X-Files collection, www.amazon.co.uk have seasons 1-4 for £44.99 each and seasons 5 & 6 for £39.99.

Just got to wait another six months or so for season 7 to be reduced!

Excellent, glad I delayed on the Aussie versions. Have to say I prefer the Digi-paks for these sets.

    Hi,

    JPFahy asked...

The age rating for the set is not the usual 15 or 18 in a red circle but rather "MA +15" (with the MA contained in a hexagon). Anyone know what this means? R4?

It's the Region 4/Australian certifcation logo, like our BBFC certificate logo. The MA means Mature Audiences Only (usually equivalent to a 15 in the UK). The "15+" bit means, obviously, it's for over 15's only.

    Hope that helps.
