1 x DVD - X-Files Box Set Season 1 (July Sale) (AUD $45.41 Exc. GST)
Converts to 17.72 Plus shipping costs of ($16)

I have ordered as it works out less than £18

I did double check customs rule
This is from HM customs website
"have an intrinsic value of £18 or less although this particular relief does not include alcohol, tobacco products, perfume or toilet waters which are covered in paragraph 3.4. The intrinsic value is the actual value of the goods excluding postage, packing and other miscellaneous costs; "

I posted about DVD Crave selling The X-Files Season 1-8 Boxsets for less than £18 each about a month ago, they are pre-orders at the moment which will start shipping on the 28th July and are the cheaper dvd case type and not the standard cardboard foldout type but for the saving I dont think it matters to most people.

What are DVD crave like? Has anybody used them before?

I don't remember which Australian DVD company it is but I remember reading that one of these companies won't send replacement DVDs if they get lost in the Mail. Is DVD crave that company?

does anyone know if this is the only difference regarding these boxsets? I cant understand how just by putting them in cases they can sell these boxsets for about £40 less than the cardboard foldout version

Its a promotion they are running, seems alot of Fox stuff is going cheap. The boxsets are exactly the same as the standard sets just in cheaper packaging and then that is only some of them. When I emailed them about a month ago they said that Season 1-5 would be in dvd cases but the other Seasons would be the normal cardboard foldout types but the best way to get answers is to email DVDCrave directly, they have always responded to me within 24hours.

When they bring the prices down this much it does show you the tremendous Markup that Fox and and the shops make in profit on a normal box set! :thumbsdow

This works out at just over £24 with shipping charges, still a bargain.
Ordered mine on 17th June, got a shipping confirmation on 12th July.
The order hasn’t arrived as yet, but that may be down to royal mail.

This I presume is including delivery
As that is not included for customs calculation.
    See quote from HMcustoms website.

no, $15 for the delivery on top, although i know there is a tax called GST, i dont kow whether i get a discount off that price which takes it under £18, i hope so.

i emailed them and asked them if they could charge me less for the movie and more for shipping so i avoid the customs hit.

I asked them about customs awhile back and they said there should be no problems so either they mark packages under the £18 limit or they mark them as gifts but seeing as the prices for the boxsets are under £18 each you wont have to worry about customs.

What happens if it's under £18 when you buy it but when it's shipped the exchange rate alters making it more than £18?

As I said before, when I emailed them asking about customs they said there would be no charges so they must mark them as gifts, why not email them directly for answers as I am just going by month old emails.

I was just looking on dvdcrave, (for the 1st time in months), and was just about to start an identical thread. I've ordered a couple of things from dvdcrave in the past, one of which was a £40 x-files S4 box set for my brother. Good at the time as he had recently paid £75 from Play.com for the 1st.

I must be lucky as so far, (touch wood), I have never been charged import tax when importing goods, i.e. games, cds, dvd's etc... From a range of countries including Canada, USA, Hong Kong, Australia. That's on roughly 50+ or more seperate orders. You can be unlucky I suppose, but if the package is relatively small in both value and volume then I think you'll tend to get away with it. A mate of mine ordered £250 worth of clothes and got stung for example. I panicked recently as I had ordered 2 box sets at the same time, which were sent together, although seperately packaged. I think therefore, they both had seperate £18 allowances.

What does happen if the exachange rates change is there a higher rate of £20 the PO uses to safeguard like they do/used to do with speed cameras?

Mine arrived yesterday, no customs charge. Marked as a gift.
Seems reasonable as the DVD value was <£18.

Better to be safe as even boxes can get printed wrong.

Doesn't say anywhere on the box
Real player reports as R2 and R4
PC set to R2 plays fine.
Copyright warning interestingly gives UK/Ireland first then Australia secondly
    No other regional warnings.
So I presume it must be OK

    Thanks for that.

I've seen markings as Region 2 that are 2 and 4 in fact I remember a region 2 version of a Led Zepellin DVD costing 5 UKP more than the one mark region 2/4. I got the region 2 version which was marked 2/4, so who knows!

I just checked this, it plays fine on the PS2, should be OK on a region 2 DVD.
