    hi folks -

when i tried to switch on my x box the other night is sort of tried reading the disc - then the green light around the button on the front flashed red and the machine shut itself down again - i didnt have much of a chance to play around with it but has anyone seen this type of behaviour before and is it bad news?

    Cheers,
    Mick
p.s the box is modded with an executor 2 chip i think... (only bought it a couple of months ago from these forums)

If you have a spare dvd drive, then unplug your dvd out the back of teh xbox, and put the drive in, and see if that works, I had the same problem, and did that!

It may not be pretty but it works, and was only 25 quid to repair!

Do you get a message on the screen with a number in the corner? It's most likely the chip has come loose in some way. Probably the d0 wire needs re-fixing. Difficult to tell without looking at it.

Might sound stupid, but if the A/V cable isn't pushed in all the way the lights on the front of the xbox flashes, but i can't remember if its red though. But it could be that!

It's a wire that's soldered directly to the board during chipping but it's the most fiddly bit and the most likely bit to come loose if the chipper was not a competant solderist.

Also, could be a pin header install and the chip itself needs a wiggle. Or could be a failed hard drive or any number of loose cables. Basically it probably all needs checking and putting back together properly. A 10 minute job for somebody who knows what's what.
