    Hi there

My son's headset wasnt working so while in HMV today the missus and I impulsively bought a headset that said suitable for online gaming but when I opened it and looked at it - it had two connections with bigger plugs that what would fit the xbox 360 controller.

Can you buy an adaptor for this or have I just wasted money?

    cheers

Ah, that's designed to be used with a PC. It has separate plugs for the headphone part and the mic part, while the 360 controller only has one socket on it, so you can't plug both in at the same time.

Thankfully, if you don't want to or can't return it, then you can buy an adapter. This is the sort of thing you need: -

No problem! You could try giving your local HMV a bell and see what their returns policy is, as opening the box doesn't necessarily stop you from returning an item, but yeah - otherwise, that adapter will do the trick. :)
