    Hi all,

Having become disillusioned with having to constantly upgrade a PC not to mention compatiablity problems I have finally gone out and bought my first console an Xbox - (Crystal Edition)
A couple of questions so forgive me if they are stupid but I consider myself as a newbie.

I have a full Home Cinema 5.1 Surround Sound system. For the time being I have hooked the X-Box upto a VCR input on my VCR so that I get DPLII sound. This sounds great but am I right in saying that I can get true Dolby Digital sound?
Nothing in the instruction manual seems to mention this.
Had a look at the back of the X-Box and it has an Ethernet port for X-Box Live etc I assume.
    No optical or Co-Axial connections.
    Am I missing something here?

Also I have bought a few games to start with. Halo, GTA 3. Both of which are excellent (at least so far). Does anyone know what 'MorrowWind" is like.
I fancy a RPG type game.

    Thanks for any help

first off you can get dolby digital from the xbox, but you cant do it from out of the box, you need to get a scart lead with optical output then connect that to your amp.

    Thanks for the quick reply.
In your mind is it a worth while upgrading?

The Drop ships in Halo coming up from behind sound pretty cool in PLII
Is Dolby Digital likely to improve this further?

What sort of cost are we talking about?

    Thanks

oh its definately worth upgrading imo, alot of people go for the official microsoft cable with optical out but i found a cheaper third party version by logic3 for £10.
works well to my ears, theres just nothing like creeping around in splinter cell PT with the amp on full blast

Honestly, its a MASSIVE improvement! Get a cable ASAP. It makes a massive difference to games - even rubbish games suddenly seem a little more interesting because the audio is so immersive.

Then start saving 'cos there are stacks of good games you should own. Chronicles of Riddick, Full Spectrum Warrior, PGR2, Top Spin Tennis, Links and Ninja Gaiden are all unbelievably good. In fact, I'd say each of the above are the best of their respective genre on any platform!

And another thing you might consider is getting it chipped - you wouldn't believe what you can do with it. It turns the thing into a multimedia hub!

As above really, definitely worth the upgrade to 5.1 its great when things behind you pan from one speaker to the other.

You can buy a optical to coaxial converter if you dont find a cable with it on already. Someone like Lektropaks should do one.
