I am aware that to stick labels onto discs is asking for trouble. Apart from using a special pen, is it possible to buy discs that can be printed on via an inkjet printer like normal CDs.

    Hi,

I'm using Verbatim DVD-R 4x printable for 1.2 euros in Barcelona (Spain) and print them with great results in my Canon PIXMA 4000 (I recomend it).

The printer must have an adaptor to print CDs or DVDs

I also use Ritec G04 printables with my Epson R200 and get my ink from Ebay worked out at £6.50 for a full set of 6 inks. You get everything you need with the R200 to print out your cd/dvds, and its also a good photo printer. You can get the R300 which has the memory card slots, but you have to make sure you get the R300 with the LCD screen. But then is it worth the extra cost when you can plug your camera straight into your computer?.
