Would you have cast it differently

Are there any films or tv shows you would have cast differently.

These can be serious or just purely for comedy value.

    Eg:

    Pulp Fiction :-
Jules Winnfield - Christopher Walken instead of Samuel L. Jackson

    Spiderman :-
Peter Parker / Spidey - Jake Gyllenhaal instead of Tobey Maguire

    Indiana Jones :-
Indy - William Shatner instead of Harrison Ford

There is one that particularly spring to mind, i initially thought Kiss the Girls was a reasonably enjoyable thriller.

But having read the book  and a few others featuring Alex Cross this summer, i can't believe they cast Morgan Freeman in the role. It was calling out for Denzel Washington (or similiar) to play it. Many of the plot lines are totally lost due to the age difference between Alex Cross in the book and Morgan freeman on screen.

Shame, it could have been a much better film than it is, not just because of MF though who is an excellent actor.

I'm sure i'll think of some more soon.

I would have liked to see Woody Allen replace Richard Dreyfus in Jaws

I totally have to agree here, as much as i like morgan freeman, i felt an younger actor should have the part and Alex Cross is Denzel in my minds eye.

On another note, Tom Hanks in Da Vinci Code, that didnt seem right to me. i think Liam Neeson or Clive Owen would have been good in that role

Get rid of the silly spanish/hispanic lady in Predator 2, she cant act and lets down the movie.

Pretty woman should of not cast Julia Roberts as she aint pretty at all, especialy with the big mouth.

Any movie where an american is trying to do a British/Scotish/Irish accent. 1 exception Brad Pitt did ok in Snatch.

One of the worst bits of casting ever has to be Jake Lloyd as anakin skywalker. He is embarrassingly bad in that movie.

 I thought I was the only one felt this way. Can't see the appeal of Angeline Jolie either.

When I was a kid I was taken to see The Wizard of Oz and couldn't understand why Dorothy was meant to be a kid, when she was obviously, (to my eyes) an adult with a funny dress on with a waistband that came up to her bumpy bits.
I later read that they tried to get Shirley Temple for the role but her studio would not release her.
She would have been ideal as Dorothy IMO.

As much as I'm a fan of Ms. Jolie......

    T3 - that's an interesting choice - although Cyborg 2 ?

Basic Instinct - She's have been about 16 at the time - ICK ICK ICK

Bound - Ahhhh one of my fav movies and as I've met Ms. Tilly anyway I think again I'd leave it as it is :)

Angelina Jolie replacing Kate Beckinsale in Underworld though - at least she'd LOOK dangerous as well as sexy.

T3 is an interesting one, an actual bad ass terminator would have been a good start.

Nic Cage in 8mm, it didnt need the action element, probably Morgan Freeman for this instead.

Angela Bassett instead of Halle Berry as Storm in X Men & X2. Bassett is a stronger actress and has much more screen presence than Berry. Berry was a poor choice from the start and with all the moaning she's done about her character not being used enough & other slightly derogatory comments she's made, the productions would have been better off without her. Unfortunately, if early script reports are true, Berry has been granted her wish and Storm will be brought to the fore in X3. Hope she ups her acting game to carry it off as, despite her Oscar, I think she's a pretty average actress.

Richard Dreyfuss instead of Arnold Schwarzenegger in Total Recall. This was on the cards for a while when Cronenberg was attached to the project. I enjoyed the Verhoeven movie we finally got, but the idea of Cronenberg adapting Philip K. Dick - well I would have loved to have seen that film!

George Lucas made such a mess of casting the new Star Wars movies that its hard to know where to begin. Only Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid) and Count Dooku (Christopher Lee) did ok - the rest were all a total disaster.

Hayden Christensen was not mis-cast as such. He just cannot act. Period !!

Ewen McGregor looked uncomfortable as Obi Wan - and his silly accent was just plain embarrassing. Only in Episode 3 did he decide to put in some effort - though it wont be winning any awards for acting.

There was no 'on screen' chemistry between Hayden Christensen and Natalie Portman's characters - making for horrible toe curling 'lurv' scenes.

Samuel L Jackson is too 'famous' to be in a Star Wars movie (as was McGregor, Neeson and Portman).

    Why you ask ?

The golden rule from the Episodes 4, 5 and 6 was to use almost all un-known actors (at the time) for the main roles - which worked superbly.
Lucas broke this rule in Episodes 1, 2 and 3 (except for Christensen who is 'wooden' beyond belief) and paid a heavy price.

And dont get me started on Jake Lloyd as the young Anakin.
The line "Are you an angel" literally took years off my life !!

Liam Neeson also looked hopelessly out of place - and he can act - so it must be bad casting decisions all round that are to blame.

Looks like nobody says 'no' to George Lucas - especially his casting directors. Pity.

Can't really say who should have replaced the above though - as i would much sooner unknown up-and-coming actors been used for the key roles - especially those who can actually act and have some charisma.

If you lot have any suggestions though please feel free...some may even be serious suggestions too...though i doubt it....lol

Agree with you on all but one point. Neeson was the only redeeming (only slightly mind) feature of Episode 1.

I would have loved to have seen Patrick Stewart cast as Denethor in the LOTR movies. And it would have been interesting to see Tom Baker or maybe Ian Richardson as Saruman (not that Christopher Lee didn't do a splendid job). And Bill Nighy as Wormtongue. Maybe Sean Connery as Theoden.

Genvieve Bujold would have made a good Captain Janeway.

Rumour has it that Al Pacino was the original first choice to play John Rambo in First Blood - that would have been fascinating.

Oh, and I would love to have seen The Fujitive cast the other way round - Harrison Ford as the US Marshall and Tommy Lee Jones as Kimball.

I disagree! He can act: see Shattered Glass. Excellent film and excellent performance. However he is awful in all the SW films, maybe he doesnt like green screens....!? He was miscast i think a slightly older Anakin would've been better.

Agreed! :suicide: He destroyed the whole film! Maybe hayley Joel Osment would have been better, although i think the writer would need replacing too... :D
