Got a couple of fillet steaks for xmas dinner, one is a typical steak the other looks like its been cut with an axe, would you complain to butcher? They weren't cheap either. 20171225_134602.jpg

    I think it would depend.

If I shopped their regularly and intended to keep doing so I would mention it to them next time I was in & hope they make some sort of gesture.

If it was a one off purchase I would chalk it up to experience and not shop there again.

Whatever they do isn’t really going to change the annoyance today.

It looks like it's been butterflied to me. Pretty normal I would say for a bit of meat that thick.

Eh? Anyone that butterflies any decent thick piece of red meat shouldn’t be allowed to eat it.

I would but then I'm never happy unless I've got something to complain about.

Before Christmas we dined at a restaurant and I chose a fillet mignon. The waiter seemed keen to know if it was satisfactory. "How did you find your steak, Sir" he inquired. I replied "Oh it was easy really - I just moved a couple of the potatoes and there it was".

One of those situations where it should be perfectly allowable for a waiter to dispense with customer service, pick said steak up and slap you around the face with it for being so condescending.

Yet another thread that, if you have doubts about your priorities in life, you can go back to and take comfort in the fact that, compared to some, your priorities are rock solid.

I had a partially wrapped caramel keg in a tin of Roses...... took loads of pictures of it, posted about it on various forums and was all but ready to return it to Asda.

Then I realized how fortunate I am to even have a caramel keg, let alone the rest of the tin... so I got a life and ate it.

On balance, I'd take the photo in (on my phone) and show the butcher and say that it was not satisfactory. It is a good example of poor butchery. It wasn't the best of Christmas dinners. The response would be interesting.

If there was an obvious difference in texture and taste in a restaurant then I would definitely complain.
As someone else said if you are a regular with the butcher mention it next time and any reputable butcher will correct it by offering you a free replacement with your next order. If trying them out as a new butcher then either don't return in the future and try another, or visit them again and ask them about it. I suppose it also depends how far away from you they are so cost of fuel and wear and tear of car etc.
