On that note I've just spotted a dealer selling a 2014 (64 reg) Nissan Leaf Acenta 5-door auto hatchback in white for £10,495. Has 16,592 miles on the clock.

      Is that good?

@DrPhil is probably the best person to ask about 2nd hand prices. One thing to check is how many times it's been "rogered" with a fast charge if you can get hold of that info.

I wouldn't be an expert, but given that I bought a 14 Tekna with 4k miles for just £3k more than that 2 and a half years ago, I wouldn't think it's a great deal to be honest.

If you can hang on, the prices of all low range EV's will probably plummet as the new ones come out. Or people will realise that the elusive 200 mile budget car is not coming and realise that if you do 20 miles a day, you don't need it.

Thinking about it the balloon payment on our car in 3 years time isn't far off that figure, could be a keeper as it will be one careful owner from new with a low mileage.

A few years ago you could pick up a 3 year old Leaf for £8k!! But prices have since picked up, £10k is probably reasonable market price at the moment, however Nissans PCP deals on used Leafs are hard to ignore.

Take a look at these offers, with an eligable 'scrapage' car your looking at £150/month with £500 deposit, and free home charger on a 3 year PCP deal.

We traded in a 2006 Scenic for peanuts, wouldn't have minded an extra £1000 off :( Mind you if you wait for the "best" deal you'd never buy anything :):)

It's a shame those 'switch old banger deals' are only for diesel vehicles...I wish they did the same for an old V6 Petrol Quattro :)

It's for any vehicle registered before 2009 that you've owned for more than 90 days, but only applies to second hand Leafs and some new ICE's Nissan Event | Nissan so wouldn't have been available for us after all :)

Regarding fast charging effect on battery range, I thought I would mention how my 64 plate Leaf is holding up as it turns 3 soon and with over 50k miles on the clock it's probably one of the higher mileage examples for its age. For the first month or so it was punished with 100% - 15/20% runs while I was waiting for the ability to charge at work as I have an 80 mile round commute. Also over the first 1-2 years I used the services rapid chargers probably several times a week, and it is a 6kW model charged at full speed from home too though I stick to 80% charging both at home and at work for commuting purposes. If I suspect we're going out the way on a day off I may top it up to 100% to be safe.

Despite all this I still have all the battery bars which I am very pleased with given my liberal use of highway fast charging and hitting the low battery warning (which admittedly kicks in at a quite high 20% remaining range) quite regularly. I remember when I first got it and reading EV/Leaf forums people were losing bars well before 50k in some cases - it's especially important to me as I plan to keep the car until it dies basically and I want as much usable range as possible for the lifespan of it.

I believe they updated the battery to the "Lizard" chemistry for my model year which is a lot more resilient to degradation, temperature, fast charging etc. so that may be why it's doing quite well. I must admit the used prices bring tears to my eyes now though, oh how hindsight is a wonderful thing. :D  I hope this helps out anyone who is thinking of a 2014 onwards Leaf anyway

Coming out of Tesco's loaded down with shopping I spotted a white Leaf in the covered carpark. It was in pristine condition and the fluorescent lights in the parking area gave the car that showroom look. I pointed it out to the missus with my chin and casually said 'thinking of getting one of those'.

My wife glanced at the Leaf and replied 'over my dead body'.

I was going to expand on the advantages of EVs but the tone of her voice told me it would be a mistake so left it at that.

She obviously didn't like the look of the Nissan Leaf and in her stressed state after a very crowded shopping spree was a bit curt.

      ...Oops. I blame my timing.

Are you sure your chin was pointing at the Leaf? It wasn't parked next to a Suzuki Jimny by any chance was it? :D

It's interesting to know why Nissan have sold their battery manufacturing plants now.
Is there a reason for this?

Yes, because it is a high capital business. Better for them and others to buy from a company dedicated to the high volume production of batteries, and in a cheaper area of the world. China really is ramping up this area of production and will be producing a huge proportion of the worlds batteries as a result. The rest of us don't care as we will be getting a cheaper product and all the industrial waste from production will not be on our doorsteps.

Those battery packs weigh 250kg iirc and are quite a size when in their storage cradle , it makes loads of sense to make the battery's where the cars are built due to the logistics of sending them half way round the world , never mind the thought of a ship full of them sinking [emoji33][emoji33][emoji33]

If the headlights are that shape to reduce the wind noise at the door mirrors, I wonder how they have addressed that in the II?

Just checked and I can get 22% off list price on any leaf for 'friends' and 'family' , it's showing the old model at the moment , not sure how that combines with any government discounts , can you still get £5k off then or not ? , if you can that would bring a 30kw tekna with 6.6 KW charger down to £16,600 .....
