If I dont buy a second hand reciever I may wait a while and get a Pioneer vsxd912.

Due to limited space I would need to stack my Sky+ and DVD on top of the reciever. I have read on one site that the 912 gives off a lot of heat and requires 8" of space above it!! That seems excessive any owners have any thoughts on this?

Do not put anything on top of any AV Receiver, you are just asking for trouble. Invest in a decent Hi-Fi or AV Rack, like the Equinox range from Atacama.

I have a 912 and find that it doesn't give off a lot of heat. Warm, yes, hot, no. I have mine free standing under my TV on the TV stand, so there's no chance of it getting damaged. I wouldn't recommend putting anything on top of any AV amp anyway.
