would this be a good HTPc to start with

    Yes, looks like a good deal.
    The graphics card will be the key component to succesfull game playing, but the trade off will be fan noise, depends on how quiet you want your HTPC to be. Also the shuttles only have 1 PCI slot, so future expansion is limited, although you could always add external devices.

    Cap, that shuttle only has a 2.4gig proccesor, from what I have learnt here, in order to do post-processing then you really need to be looking at a 3gig cpu at least, espically if you want to be able to watch things like the Windows media player HD material

    That's true, although I have an Athlon XP2700 in mine with 512mb RAM (FSB 333) and it plays all the 720p Hi Def stuff fine, there is a little bit of lag on 1080p but that may be due to the display. The only other time the CPU has struggled was when doing post-processing in FFD Show, I had to turn the settings down as I was trying to resize it too big..
