    Hi

I have been using the 5 speakers that came with my Sony MHC-NX3AV Hifi in my home cinema setup. There driven my a Marantz SR4200 and my subwoofer is a Paradigm PDR-10. I've never really heard anyone elses home cinema except a m8's Sony DAVS300 which I would say was nearly on par with my setup. I attached a picture of the speakers the 2 big ones are the fronts and the other 3 are the center and rears. So what I'm asking is if bought one of the speaker packages below would it be likely that I would hear a big increase in sound quality over my old setup ?

    1. Canton Movie 150QX
    2. Mordaunt Short Avant Premiere
    3. KEF KHT-1005

p.s. I am also thinking of upgrading my Amp to a Yamaha 757SE

The speakers upgrade, not a big improvement, but throw in the Yamaha and you will notice a big jump.

I would, the fronts look ok, but the center and rears look rubbish.

My brother-in-law owns this system. He doesn't have the rears, but the fronts sound pretty decent by my reckoning (have only heard the likes of JT through it, mind).

Both would give big benefits IMO.. The centre (the most important) is tiny, and looks very cheap. If you don't want to upgrade the others you could at least buy a decent centre speaker...

However when combined with the Yamaha 757, upgrading them all will definately be worthwhile.

Thanks for advice guys. I might just upgrade the centre and rears then. Is the Paradigm PDR10 still ok ?

Of your choices in the original post, the Kef would probably offer the best sound, though Canton is up-n-coming. And IMHO it will be a b i g improvement on the standard setup. I'm very biased towards Sony - I can think of 3 better letters after the 'S' every time I hear one of their amps. I'd change the front 3 speakers and leave the rears - only about 10% of a movie's sound comes from the rear, and that's if you're lucky.

Try to demo them if you can. Some dealers will allow you to in-home demo for a small deposit. Others will ask you to pay and then get a refund minus 'restock fee'.

The Yammy - lovely at the price. I used to have the DSP-A5 (and before that a Denon AVC2800 I think it was) before I went for the "American Connection" (as I call them  )

    Paul.

You could replace the front 3 and move your current fronts to rears, if you felt that way inclined...
