I have landscapers coming around soon to do some work. Theyre bringing a digger to dig out/pull out some large roots that were cut down recently too. Large bushes and some trees but they werent that old.

The roots left over from the guy who chainsawed them now need removed but they are close to a neighbors wall, and seeing as im putting nice new fence along side his crappy broken wall i thought he wanted it removed, but he wants to keep it.

So now im wondering if pulling the roots out will disturb the wall... has anyone any experience of this and give me some advice?

Why do you need to dig them up from his side? Just cut them off with a spade on your side and leave his side as it is.

depends how bad the wall is .If reasonable it should be possible to remove the shrub roots with care using a digger.Presumably the gardeners have liability insurance and are confident of avoiding any damage. Make sure you tell them.

are the root balls right against the wall, or is there a gap between shrubs and wall? What the gardeners may do is excavate the three areas round each shrub that are not against the wall , then cut through the underside with a spade. The shrubs should move much easier then.

The landscapers should be able to tell you if there will be any problems.

Someone I know had a cherry tree that had grown through an old, but structurally quite important wall and he was worried the tree would weaken the wall. A bloke came round to survey it and gave it the all clear. Not really sure what his job title was but he must have been a gardener of some sort.
