Would Kef HTS2001 speakers sound better than my old JPWs?

    Hi,
My current AV surround set-up is quite old. I have a set of 5 JPW mini monitors along with matching passive sub. They are about 10 years old and received a 4/5 or 5/5 rating in what hifi if i remember correctly.

I'm looking for some new speakers since these JPWs look a little dated now. I've seen these Kef HTS2001 speakers - a 5 sat an active subwoofer arrangement. These got good reviews when they came out and cost about £600 i think.

My JPW speakers set cost just £250.

The Kefs are obviously smaller, but being more expensive, i would assume they should sound a lot better than the old JPWs?

Do you think this would be so?

I know these are not current model speakers so i appologies for not asking about the latest stuff, i have to keep costs down!

    Cheers

    Simple answer is demo them.

Find a nearest retailer, take in your favourite DVD and demo them in store.

I have the 2005.2's and they are great - a lot of detailed sound but I only started to get the best from mine when I updated my amp (damn hate it when store staff are right )

yes good point, but the ones i'm refering to are no longer a current mode so i'd be buying them off ebay probably, so a demo would be difficult.

I will be upgrading my amp too, but i'm wondering wether or not to get new speakers

Well based on my experience its probably worth doing both.

I started off wanting to upgrade my mismash of speakers to a style set (mainly because of space) but thought my 8 year old amp would be fine.

Set the kefs up with my Sherwood - though great!!

Then by pure fortune had the opportunity to get a new amp for barely £40 (Yamaha-759) which has the YPAO (room acoustic analyser)

Set them up with the Yamaha and it made another whole world of difference to the sound, so much so now I can listen to films at very low volume and still feel the system is too loud it fills the room that much.
