A while ago I had to re-install my computer as it was playing up but I forgot to back up the songs I purchased to cd. I thought I would never be able to prove what I purchased so never bothered to contact apple.
However I just went to my itunes account and noticed there is a purchase history where the songs I forgot to back up are in there so I can prove I purchased them and it is quite a list, I was wondering do you think if I contacted apple they would allow me to re download the songs I lost or would I have to pay for the songs again?

I thought once they had been downloaded you could not download them again! That's why you get the iTunes warnings about backing up. There are so many better competing mp3 stores nowadays all at 320 bitrate eg. 7digital, Play, Amazon to name but 3. I've not used Amazon but certainly 7digital and Play allow multiple downloads of the same album before you reach the download limit.

How easy is it to put them on your ipod if I use play or 7digital?

Simple as, just store them on your pc in a suitable folder, and use the add folder to library option in itunes. Sync as normal. Job done!
