Would I Notice A Difference ?

I currently run an old Denon 2805 (no HDMI) and am thinking of upgrading to a Yamaha DSPAX863SE so that I can make use of the true HD audio tracks on my Sony BDPS350. My listening is 99.9% movies

I am running a 7.1 system in a relatively large room with Acoustic Energy Aegis Evo 3 fronts, matching centre, BK XLS-200 sub and mission surrounds (forget the exact model number).

Firstly am I likely to notice an improvement with truehd over standard DD/DTS and if so is it worth spending the extra on the yamaha over something like a cheap sony 820 (I will not be upgrading the speakers anytime soon). I am not interested in video processing features as I plan on getting a scaler sometime in the future.

Finally, with my speakers would I be likely to gain much by upgrading the receiver anyway ?

Thanks for any help.

Hi, I would say your best approach would be to go to a local HiFi specialist and get them to setup a demon of SD sound v HD and then if you can tell the difference at least your on the right track. One point to make is that quite a few people have hearing problems that they are not ware of and as such can't hear the full range and therefore it may sound no different although IMO I have noticed the improved detail and depth of the sound.
