Hi,
I currently have a 5.1 setup in my cinema room. I am upgrading to 7.1 but I'm not certain what side speakers to get.

What I had planned to do was move the current speakers that I use for surrounds to the rear and then add 2 new dipole/bipole speakers to the sides. Also bring the sides up to 90 degrees to the listening position. However I'm not sure now if dipoles would suit because of the closeness to the rear wall?

I am also planning some room acoustic treatment soon. Going to do some testing with REW. At the moment I have no treatment and have notice some issues which may be caused by reflections.

I have attached a diagram to give you a better idea of the layout.
  • The black squares are my current speakers.
  • The red squares are where the surrounds would be moved to.
  • The blue squares are where the new dipole speakers would go.
  • All measurements are in centimeters (cm).
The two 84cm bits on the left are radiators, the three dark grey cubes in the middle are the seating positions and there is a door to the right of the 96 measurement at the bottom left.

Any advice would be great!

(You can see some actual photos in my build thread here)

Cheers

Chris.
