Would appreciate advice on interconnects for Preamp/processor to multichannel amps. :lesson:

    Should they be 75 Ω ?

What have been peoples experiences on cable upgrades made in this area?

Thanks for looking and your opinions in advance.

    Cheers

I have been using integrated, so no requirement in the past.

    Now moving to Rotel 1098 + 1075 + 1070

So it will be for this.

    Thanks for your interest

    Hello Sprout

75 Ohm cables are generally used for Video and or Digital Coaxial audio - the connections between the Outputs on your Pre amp/Processor and Inputs on your Power Amp are normally Screened 50 Ohm.

The majority of Consumer kit uses RCA to RCA unbalanced cables and some use XLR to XLR Balanced cables.

As ever cables can be pretty subjective with some folk claiming its all snake oil and others claming they have just spent the best 1K ever on a new set of titanium plated, moon rocket skinned wonder cables :)

We get good results using relatively low cost VanDamme Classic Instrument cable (sub £25.00 for a 1m pair) - which use a mixture of OFC copper and Silver Plated OFC copper conductors.

Where someone wants an alternative we use BetterCables Silver Serpent and Blue Truth - see http://www.bettercables.com/silseraudin.html

I'm sure others will have personal favourites and you'll see a fair few folk trying the DIY route using CAT5 and the like elsewhere on the AVForums.

    Best regards

    Joe

    Joe, thanks for your resonse.
I do not think the info you provided is easy to come by, I have done a fair bit of reading, but I have not found a cable site that mentions un-balanced leads specifically for pre/proc to Amp.

I notice Ingo above has ordered some cables, these I am certain are 75 Ω.

Joe, now I do not wish to dissapoint him but what will be the effect of using 75 Ω opposed to 50 Ω ?

Thanks all so far for there contribution.

    Cheers

mmm not sure on this one Joe,

thought it was generally recognised that 75ohm cable was actually excellent for analogue audio, according to all the DIYers ie John Risch, Mark Grants Stuff is all 75ohm as is the stuff i have just got, so like i said will let you know when i hear it

Well the cables have turned up &......

    WOW

They are superb in all respects, clarity detail timing everything!!!!

Was using a QED Qunex 3 £125 cable between HTPC & Pre amp & 2 Pairs of Chord Cobras to feed bi amp from Pre amp.

when replacing only one of these not much changed, but putting all together well, breath taking difference!!!!

Only minor grumble is a tiny tiny touch lighter bass when used as a stereo pair but well worth for everything else.

one thing Dan did for me was a custom Y cable to omit using a phono splitter, the bullets & cables wow!!!!
